Large Red-belted Clearwing

Synanthedon culiciformis (52.007)

The adult Large Red-belted Clearwing moth is on the wing between May and late June. In Warwickshire it is a very local and scarce species.

Since the start of the 20th Century, there have only been a handfull of sightings, mostly of larvae. Locations where the species has been found include Austy Wood, Bubbenhall Wood, May's Wood, Clowes Wood, Umberslade, Wappenbury Wood, Princethorpe, Oakley Wood, Snitterfield Bushes and Sutton Park.
